Description

CHIPPER:

Edgewood Norths Astro (“Chipper”) is CHIC-certified, NAVHDA-proven, genetically diverse, and structurally sound. Chipper is strong, athletic, and balanced, standing 23” inches tall and weighing 66 lbs. He has the classic Griff furnishings – full eyebrows, beard and mustache, and a perfect medium dense, medium harsh, no maintenance coat.

Chipper comes from a pedigree grounded in proven performance and the respected Firebird lineage. His sire is Alibi’s Fritz Wiesemann (“Fritz”) and his dam is Firebirds Electra (“Ellie”). Both parents are NAVHDA tested and steady, cooperative hunting partners.

On his dam’s side, Chipper is the grandson of two renowned Versatile Champions, VC Alibi’s Tomorrow Is a Better Day (“Tommy”) and VC Alibi’s Into Firebirds Lucky Nina (“Nina”). Two dogs celebrated for producing talented, mentally stable, and highly cooperative hunting companions. This combination places Chipper squarely within one of the most influential and reliable performance pedigrees in the modern Wirehaired Pointing Griffon breed.

Chipper has the textbook Griff temperament; affectionate, people, dog & cat friendly, and delightfully goofy. Chipper is happiest in the grouse woods. Moving gracefully, pointing honestly, holding strong, and retrieving with enthusiasm.

TRIXIE:

Stonyridge Tic Tac ("Trixie") has a strong hunting drive, with a cooperative, eager to please, disposition. She loves to swim and retrieving in water. In the field, she moves quickly. She covers ground, but is good at checking in, holds a point, and is a natural retriever.

Her dam is Stonyridge Zelda ("Ziggy"), from multiple generations of Versatile Champions, and her sire is Stonyridge Locked and Loaded ("Gus"). This litter received a NAVHDA NA Breeder's Award. Stonyridge Kennel has a tradition of breeding hard hunting dogs (6 Stonyridge dogs have qualified for the 2026 NAVHDA Invitational), with harsh, dense, low maintenance coats. Trixie is very much representative of this tradition, with a medium-dense, medium-harsh, low maintenance coat and a sleek, athletic build.

She is 50 lbs., and medium sized for the breed. In her NAVHDA Natural Ability test, she scored a strong 104 points, Prize 2. Her PennHip score puts her in the top 5% of Wirehaired Pointing Griffons (Right DI 0.18, Left DI 0.21).

She has a sweet personality, loves attention, and gets along well with people of all ages, with her preference being those willing to give her lots of scratches. She's great with other dogs and understands when it's time to work and when it's time to play.

🐶 Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
