Description

This is a repeat breeding between HRCH Oostra Storm and HRCH Oostra Chasing Red Lily. This breeding has produced some excellent gun dogs and excellent companions too. I have had 1 professional trainer in SD place 4 of these pups into homes and trained them with excellent results from the previous breedings. These pups will have a ton of drive for the field and should be able to compete in AKC AND UKC events well. They also will have an excellent off switch for the house, office, or truck! I have 1 males and 3 females in this litter. They were whelped on April 22nd and will be available around June 18th

Storm is an extremely high drive that never wants to stop hunting or training. He marks and handles well at large distances. He tends to be a little more independent and will want to follow his nose at times, but will take corrections and guidance very well. He is very much a pleasure to hunt with, and my hunting partners often requests that he comes along. He is fairly fast out in the field when it comes to retrieving too.

Lily is an absolute blast to be around. She loves to hang out in the house or office and especially on your lap if you let her. She has a very good off switch which tends to surprise people when we take her out into the field because she tends to transform into a machine. She has a really large motor also and loves to hunt and train too. She is more of a team player when it comes to handling. She also does very well marking and running blinds at larger distances. She is a very fast dog and doesn't like to outran to retrieves which does not happen often.

đŸ¶ Buyer’s Checklist for Gun Dogs

Whether you’re buying, selling, or studding a dog, it’s essential to take the right steps to protect yourself—and the animals involved.

  • Always meet the dog in person at the breeder’s home or kennel—never agree to buy without seeing them first.
  • Ask to see the puppies with their Dam (mother), and the Sire (father) if available.
  • Verify all paperwork:
    • Kennel Club (KC) registration number
    • Date of birth
    • Health screening results
  • Prepare questions to ask the breeder. Some helpful ones include:
    • Did you breed the dog(s) yourself?
    • Can I see where they were bred and raised?
    • How old is the Dam, and how many litters has she had?
    • Was the birth natural or via C-section?
    • Are there any known health issues?
    • Can I see documentation for both Dam and Sire?
    • Will the puppy be vaccinated and wormed before purchase?
  • If something feels off, walk away. Don’t ignore red flags.
  • Ask for advice from a trusted third party if you’re unsure.
  • Take your time. This is a big decision—don’t rush it.
  • Puppies should appear happy, healthy, clean, and curious.
  • You should be allowed to see and handle all puppies in the litter, not just the one you're considering.
  • Never buy a puppy younger than 8 weeks old.
  • Avoid any puppies that show signs of illness—e.g. runny eyes, weakness, or diarrhoea.
  • Is the whelping pen clean?
  • Do the dogs have access to fresh water, clean food, and adequate space?
  • The living conditions can say a lot about the breeder’s standards.
  • Ensure you receive the KC registration form and all relevant documents at the time of payment.
  • Write up a simple contract to protect both buyer and seller—especially important in case circumstances change.
  • Never agree to buy a puppy in a car park or public place. Always go to the breeder's premises.

🧠 Final Thought

Buying a gun dog is your responsibility. Do your homework on both the breed and the breeder. Make sure your decision is informed, confident, and in the best interest of the dog.
